Although he pleaded not guilty, the prosecution, led by Ebuka Okongwu, presented strong evidence.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The EFCC called three witnesses and submitted 11 exhibits tracing how the funds were diverted.<\/li>\n<li>He was also found guilty of failing to declare his assets, which violates provisions of the EFCC Act.<\/li>\n<li>The court ruled that his actions amounted to stealing under Lagos State law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The Sentence<\/h3>\n<p>Justice Ijelu ruled that the case was proven beyond reasonable doubt and handed down the sentence as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Five years each for counts one to four, which will run at the same time.<\/li>\n<li>Five years each for counts five and six related to asset declaration.<\/li>\n<li>Although the total adds up to 30 years, some of the sentences will run concurrently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The court also allowed an option of a \u20a61 million fine for each of the last two counts, provided payment is made within six months.<\/p>\n<h3>Refund and Custody<\/h3>\n<p>Beyond the prison term, the court ordered Idowu to fully repay the stolen $62,500 and \u20ac36,020 within six months.<\/p>\n<p>Following the ruling, he was taken into custody at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre to begin serving his sentence.<\/p>\n<h3>A Strong Message to Businesses<\/h3>\n<p>This case sends a clear warning to businesses, especially those involved in logistics and heavy equipment transactions.
