If you have been trying to recharge airtime or wanting to buy data from MTN and encountered some issues, it is because MTN just announced it changed its USSD codes.

The new change in short codes is due to the report by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) asking all network service providers to have uniform short codes. Your regular MTN code, *556# is no longer available.

If you dial *556# you will receive a prompt telling you that you imputed a wrong code and show you a drop down of the new codes.

We will show you the new MTN codes that have been approved by NCC.

Will The New MTN Codes Affect Banking Services

No, the new MTN codes cannot affect banking services. You can still continue to use your bank’s USSD code to recharge airtime or buy data to your MTN line. Mr. Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman of the Association of Licenced Telecom Operators stated that the new short codes only affects telecommunication operators and not banks.
